The problem
Problem statement
AI Class ASEAN is a fully operational regional AI learning platform developed by the ASEAN Foundation under the AI Ready ASEAN Programme with support from Google.org. The platform offers structured learning pathways comprising 12-15 learning hours, tailored to three beneficiary groups, youth, educators, and parents, to ensure relevant and contextualised AI literacy and responsible AI education. Learners can access multilingual learning modules, assessments, discussion forums, certification, and offline learning resources designed for communities with limited internet connectivity and unreliable electricity. The platform also features an embedded AI chatbot, developed in collaboration with SEA-LION by AI Singapore, a fellow Google.org grantee, providing AI-assisted learning support that is accessible across all ASEAN Member States. Together, these features create an inclusive and scalable learning ecosystem that enables learners to build practical AI knowledge, digital competencies, and responsible AI practices through both online and offline delivery. Beyond supporting an AI awareness campaign that has reached more than 8.4 million individuals across ASEAN, AI Class ASEAN serves as the primary platform for in-depth learning, with over 720,000 certified in-depth learners and 4,966 Master Trainers trained to date.

AI Class ASEAN is a fully operational regional AI learning platform designed to deliver structured, competency-based AI education at scale. It offers tailored learning pathways for youth, educators, and parents through 12-15 hours of guided learning, while Master Trainers complete an extended 20-hour curriculum to strengthen local delivery capacity. To ensure equitable access, the platform combines multilingual learning resources, offline functionality for underserved communities with limited internet and electricity, and an embedded AI chatbot developed in collaboration with SEA-LION by AI Singapore, a fellow Google.org grantee, providing AI-assisted learning support across all ASEAN Member States. This integrated approach enables consistent, high-quality AI education while allowing content to be contextualised and delivered through both online and offline modalities. The platform has already demonstrated its effectiveness in supporting large-scale AI capacity building, with hundreds of thousands of learners and thousands of certified Master Trainers successfully completing structured learning pathways across the region.
Project scope
During the Scaling Programme, we aim to enhance AI Class ASEAN by introducing AI-powered personalised learning, multilingual support, and intelligent recommendations tailored to learners’ needs. We will also strengthen the platform’s interoperability and system performance, enabling more inclusive and scalable AI-assisted learning for diverse communities across ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
Users and functionalities
User Group 1 - Learners (Youth, Parents, and Educators) Register on the platform and follow structured learning pathways tailored to their beneficiary group (youth, parents, or educators). Learners complete approximately 15 learning hours through a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning, interact with the embedded AI chatbot for personalised learning support, complete pre- and post-learning assessments, participate in discussion forums, and earn a certificate upon successfully completing all required modules and assessments. Each learning pathway is contextualised to address the unique needs, roles, and perspectives of its target audience, ensuring a more relevant, practical, and engaging learning experience.
User Group 2 - Master Trainers Complete an advanced 20–25 learning hour curriculum covering the full suite of learning pathways for youth, parents, and educators. Master Trainers strengthen their AI knowledge, pedagogical, and facilitation skills, enabling them to deliver cascade training, mentor learners, and monitor learning progress across schools, universities, and local communities. As regional multipliers, they play a critical role in expanding the programme's reach and ensuring its long-term sustainability across ASEAN.
User Group 3 - Programme Administrators Manage learner registration, content administration, assessments, certifications, AI chatbot configuration, platform analytics, monitoring and reporting, while overseeing overall platform operations, performance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement to ensure an effective and scalable learning experience.

Success vision
Addressing these challenges would enable AI Class ASEAN to deliver more personalised, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences at scale. Learners would benefit from adaptive learning support tailored to their needs, resulting in higher completion rates, stronger learning outcomes, and increased certification. Enhanced multilingual AI capabilities and intelligent learner support would also improve accessibility for underserved communities, allowing the platform to reach more users while maintaining quality and delivering measurable long-term impact across ASEAN.
