Problem Statement

Problem Statement: Poland suffers from alarmingly low EU reading levels, partly due to an outdated school canon irrelevant to diverse youth, hindering reading for pleasure. The digital age further erodes sustained attention. Our survey reveals that 78% of parents report negative effects from non-reading, while 94% struggle to find engaging books due to a lack of personalized guidance. Moreover, 56% find building reading habits challenging. Parents need a modern AI tool for easy book discovery and consistent habit

Project Details

Project Details: We aim to develop an AI-powered recommendation tool that enables parents to quickly and accurately find books tailored to their child’s age, interests, reading style, and preferences. The high level goal is to empower parents in building a daily reading habit by making the book selection process easy, engaging.

Users and functionalities

User Groups: Our primary user group consists of parents and caregivers of school-aged children (typically 6-15 years old) across Poland. These parents are actively engaged in their children's development and education, and they are acutely aware of the declining reading habits among youth. They value the benefits of reading and observe negative developmental effects when their children do not read enough. A key characteristic is their struggle to find appropriate and engaging books for their children, often due to an overwhelming choice and a lack of personalized guidance. They also face challenges in building and maintaining consistent reading habits within their households, yet they are eager for effective tools to support them in this endeavor. Based on national demographics, there are approx. 3 million households with children aged 6-15 in Poland. Our project aims to initially engage a pilot group of 5,000 to 10,000 parents in the first phase, scaling to 100,000 parents within 3 years, primarily those actively seeking innovative solutions to support their children's reading journey. Our secondary user group comprises of teachers, particularly those educating children in early primary grades (classes 0-5). These educators are committed to fostering love for reading but often struggle to find relevant, inspiring books that resonate with individual students' interests and capabilities, beyond the traditional school canon.

Estimated Impact

Estimated Impact: Internal Impact: This project will significantly enhance our organization's internal operations by increasing effectiveness, improving speed, and enhancing the quality of our services. Specifically, the development of the internal AI tool for automated book review generation will: Increase Efficiency and Speed: Automate the initial drafting of book reviews and content, drastically reducing the manual time currently spent on research and first-draft creation by our team members. This will free up valuable human resources. Enhance Quality and Consistency: Ensure a higher level of consistency and comprehensiveness in our book reviews and educational materials, as the AI will draw from a vast, consistent knowledge base. Improve Scalability: Enable us to process, and add a greater volume of diverse books more rapidly, expanding our content offering Optimize Resource Allocation: Allow our pedagogical experts and content curators to focus their efforts on qualitative verification, adding nuanced human insight External Impact: This project will expand our reach and enhance service quality for children and parents in Poland. We expect to scale to 100,000 parents within 3 years, empowering them to cultivate daily reading habits in their children. The AI tool will provide personalized, engaging book recommendations, making selection easy and deeply personal. This addresses parents' struggle to find appropriate books (94% face this issue). For kids, it increases reading engagement, fostering a lifelong love for literature and future-ready skills. Teachers (130,000-150,000 in Poland for classes 1-5) will gain tools to select diverse materials beyond old canons and find discussion topics, impacting up to 2,400 schools via existing partnerships.
